메기의 추억

 

중국어방을 사랑하시는 동학 여러분 이제 두밤만 자고나면

그야말로 다사다난했던 2012년이 지나고 새해 2013년이 되는 군요.

 

비록 이카페의 싸이버 공간에서만 뵙지만 여러 동학님들의 숨결이 들려오는듯 하군요.

2012년 한해도 여러분 감사했습니다.

 

우리가 어릴때 초등학교 입학할때쯤 살던 우리집 뒤에는 뒷동산이 있어서

 그 산이 우리 놀이터였는데

지금은 수몰된후 흔적도 없답니다.

 

항시 메기의 추억을 들을때면 그 뒷동산만 생각이 난답니다.

오늘은 그럼 늘 듣던 영어 노래의 메기의 추억은 늘 들어 왔으나

중국인들도 이노래를 알고는 있을까 검색을 해 보았답니다.

Maggie를 중국인 원어민들이 이렇게 梅姬 méijī로 표기했군요.

Margaret  Clark,즉 매기maggie는 Margaret의 애칭입니다.

캐나다의 죠지 죤슨<1839-1917>이라는 시인이 있었습니다.,

 

토론토 대학을 졸업하고 미국의 죤스홉킨스 대학에서 철학박사 학위를 받고 토론토 대학 교수로 재직했던 사람입니다.

죠지 죤슨이 고교 교사였을때 그는 제자 매기 크라크와 서로 사랑하는 사이가 되었습니다.

그들은 매기의 집근처 강가에서 자주 만났고 죠지죤슨은 매기에 대한 지극한 사랑을 시로써 표현 하였습니다.둘은 1865년 결혼해서 오하이오주 클리블랜드로 이사를 갑니다.여기서 두사람은 신혼 살림을 시작합니다.불행이도 매기가 결혼한지 7개월만에 결핵으로 세상을 떠나게 되지요.

 

 

 

 

 

When You and I Were Young, Maggie is a famous folk song, popular song and standard. Though Springtown, Tennessee, has a small monument outside an old mill claiming the song was written by a local George Johnson,  for his Maggie, the truth is that its lyrics were written as a poem by the Canadian school teacher George Washington Johnson from Hamilton, ontario. Margaret "Maggie" Clark was his pupil. They fell in love and during a period of illness, George walked to the edge of the Niagara escarpment, overlooking what is now downtown Hamilton, and composed the poem. The general tone is perhaps one of melancholy and consolation over lost youth rather than mere sentimentality or a fear of aging. It was published in 1864 in a collection of his poems entitled Maple Leaves. They were married in 1864 but Maggie's health deteriorated and she died on May 12, 1865. James Austin Butterfield set the poem to music and it became popular all over the world. George Washington Johnson died in 1917. The schoolhouse where the two lovers met still stands on the escarpment above Hamilton, and a plaque bearing the name of the song has been erected in front of the old building.^[1][2][3] In 2005, George Washington Johnson was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
